AMC recently released a 3-minute sneak peek of the turbulent season ahead. If you haven’t seen this intense clip, you need to press play right this second.
The Walking Dead – Official Sneak Peek
Theories sprouted from every vast corner of the web after this clip debuted. Let’s take a moment to discuss what we know, what we think, and what we heard.
Rick is alive, but what about Maggie?
Okay, so maybe this is a complete given once you watch the clip. However, there are some insights to garner here.
Someone by Rick received a serious beating from Lucille (Negan’s bat). Yet, this person must not be right next to Rick since he only has a single streak of blood on his face.

Since Maggie was next to Rick, this probably excludes her from the list. Or does it?
This clever Twitter user noticed a minute detail that could place Maggie back into the pool of candidates. Is that her engagement ring on the ground?

Honestly, the piece of metal does not look exactly like a ring unless Lucille warped it as well.
Is it Daryl? Please no.
The blanket on the ground looks a lot like the one Daryl had wrapped around him. His position in the circle of death also lends to this theory since he wasn’t directly next to Rick.
However, we like to believe that the writers wouldn’t throw out such an obvious hint like this one. Yet, a recent quote from Lauren Cohan at New York’s Comic Con does make this idea more plausible.
“It’s so unexpected, jarring and destabilizing in a way we’ve never had,” Cohan said as she cried. “The story that comes from this year is insane. We were completely knocked off our feet, literally. We’ll see how people deal with what they could and should and would have done as we go through.”
This season is gonna hurt…a lot
At New York’s Comic Con, Greg Nicotero (executive producer) also weighed in: “Every season, the premiere has a very different tone. Because everybody knows how the season ended last year and that someone’s gonna go, it was more of a challenge going into it and knowing what people are going to expect…There are some unbelievable moments that come out of the fog and the haze of the post traumatic stress after that moment. When we were finished, it took me a few weeks to recover from it.”
